Systems built from scratch
When off-the-shelf software forces your process into its model, we design the data model, application, and deployment around the way your team works.
Custom software
Zencode is an Edmonton-based custom software company. We design and build systems for organizations stuck between spreadsheets, disconnected applications, and software that no longer fits. We take on the whole build: data model, integrations, workflow, and deployment.
What we build
Most engagements start with a process held together by email threads, shared drives, or software nobody wants to change. These are the problems we're usually brought in to solve.
01
When off-the-shelf software forces your process into its model, we design the data model, application, and deployment around the way your team works.
02
Replace manual handoffs, re-keying, and spreadsheet reconciliation with workflows that move data, enforce rules, and leave an audit trail.
03
Consolidate aging tools or replace a system that has become too expensive to change. We can migrate incrementally rather than betting the business on a big-bang rewrite.
04
Connect line-of-business systems, identity providers, document stores, payment services, and third-party APIs. We handle the API contracts, retries, and failure modes.
05
An explicit design for boundaries, data ownership, security, and delivery. Useful before a build starts, or when an existing system has become hard to reason about.
Engagement process
Each step has a defined output, and paid work is scoped and priced before it starts.
A short conversation about the problem, the constraints, the systems involved, and what a useful outcome looks like. No cost, no obligation.
A fixed-scope piece of work: current-state review, options, target architecture, risks, and a delivery estimate. You get a document you can act on, whether or not Zencode builds the system.
A written proposal with deliverables, milestones, assumptions, and price. The scope is written down, so a change is a decision rather than a surprise.
Working software in increments. Each milestone delivers something you can run and review, not a status report. You review it before the next phase begins.
Documentation, operational handover, and an agreed support path. We can maintain the system, support your team, or hand it over cleanly.
Discovery is a paid, fixed-scope engagement. It produces an architecture and estimate you can use with any developer.
Client systems
Client names and client-specific details are withheld.
More than 300,000 annual statements were produced through four separate systems. Each handoff added reconciliation work, delay, and a place for errors to hide.
Zencode consolidated statement data, generation, validation, and delivery into a single platform. The annual run now follows one production path, with batch status and output that operations can inspect.
Client name withheld. Details are limited to what can be shared publicly.
An internal platform for provisioning, reconciling, and auditing user permissions across enterprise systems, with existing identity groups as the source of truth.
Zencode designed and built Sentra as a .NET and Angular application. A profile engine resolves grants by priority with deny-override rules, then compares desired access to actual access for each environment. Changes are applied idempotently and written to an audit log. Scheduled scans catch drift.
Client name withheld. Architecture and outcomes are described without client-specific details.
PensionEase is a member-facing retirement wizard. It guides a plan member through the decisions and paperwork required to retire: when to retire, which pension option to choose, and how to apply for the benefit.
Zencode designed and built the entire system from scratch: eligibility and option modelling, benefit selection, document generation, and the workflow that turns a member's choices into a submitted application.
The paper package, which could run past 100 pages, became a guided online process. Members see what they need to decide and what happens next, and the application carries their choices through to submission.
Client name withheld. Scope described at a high level.
